Aren't these bags just totally fab?!

They are fabulous handbags, but would also be great to carry craft projects. At 43cm (17") long and 18cm (7") high, they are perfect for straight knitting needles. Each is fully lined, closes with a button and is hand-finished.

I based them on one of Amy Butler's wonderful patterns, Uptown Handbag, from Madison Bags.
Amy has got some great patterns. They are well worth a go.
Beautiful designs - and you can buy her groovy fabric too! I used some of her fabric for the lining of the green bag.

Here's a bit of guff about each:
RED VELVET
Red Velvet has a luscious cotton velvet exterior and a green & cream geometric cotton print lining. The interfacing and the velvet means that it stands in shape beautifully. The oversized button is all the way from New Zealand. It's Kauri, a golden-coloured native New Zealand wood. Very beautiful. The funky cotton panel on the outside was the border on the lining fabric, so matches it perfectly, and I've top stitched it with the tiniest of stitches.
GREEN BOUCLE
The exterior fabric of Green Boucle is a cotton/poly mix with a fabulous knotty texture. The colour can only be described as lime-avocado...or maybe you have a better description ;) It is lined with a fresh Amy Butler cotton fabric of grey, cream, lime and pink. The handles are up-cycled from a rather lovely soft pair of liquorice Mulberry trousers, and the button is vintage. The quirky sprigs are hand-finished with fine merino yarn french knots.
CREAM LINEN
Cream Linen is the softest of the three bags, I was playing around with different interfacing. The exterior is a cotton/linen mix and the lining a soft cream and muted floral cotton. The button is also vintage and the handles those lovely Mulberry trousers again. I've top-stitched the flowers and hand-finished them with a glossy off-white embroidery thread.
