Truly Myrtle Podcast - Episode 39: With Bonnie from Rusty Skillet

Welcome back to Episode 39!

LOCAL OCTOBER

We're wrapping up "Local" October this week. Hasn't it been fun?!

Did you join in the "Local" yarn swap? If you've got your parcel - remember to post a photo in the Ravelry thread so we can all enjoy it with you.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined it!

CELEBRATE NOVEMBER

I thought I'd give you a taste of what to expect in November! I'm turning 45 right smack in the middle of November and I'd love it if you'd join me in doing a little celebrating!

The "SPOIL YOURSELF" make-along is running for the month of November. Make a little time to do something for you. Spoil yourself! There'll be a thread in the Ravelry group where you can share what you've knitted, sewn, crocheted, baked or done for you - we'd love to hear all about it and see what you're up to!

There are a pile of wonderful sponsors on board for our Spoil Yourself make-along! We've got prizes of beautiful yarn, project bags and knitting & crochet patterns from:

Outlaw Yarns

Happy Go Knitty

Skeinz

Circus Tonic

Three Bears Made

Clare Devine

Sally Oakley

Jessica from the Sweater Collective

Kathleen Dames

& Alia from Little Bee!

I'll be drawing spot prizes each week and there'll be neat prizes at the end of the month for people who have really spoiled themselves :)

To really get you in the mood I'm offering a great big sale on all my individual patterns for one week only! Use the code SPOILYOURSELF to receive a whopping 45% off! (I'm only 45 once right?!) The code will work until midnight, Thursday 3 November (NZ time)

I'm knitting myself a cardigan to spoil myself in November. I've chosen the very cute Bentley Cardigan from Marie Greene and am using delicious Port fingering from Dark Harbour Yarn in the Rare & Exotic Beat (teal) colour-way.

INTERVIEW WITH BONNIE FROM RUSTY SKILLET

My guest on the podcast wraps up Local October with talk of dyeing with plants found in your garden. Bonnie is a Canadian who's been living in New Zealand for 10 years. She is a fabulously experimental dyer who also has a gorgeous food blog Rusty Skillet where she posts delicious recipes for lots of yummy food cooked from scratch.

Do check out her blog and especially her recipes for:

Sauerkraut

Coconut Yoghurt

Kimchi

Bonnie and I talk about dyeing with local plants, what to dye on and we cover light fastness and mordants. She is a font of great information.

Bonnie refers to the dyeing book: Eco Colour by India Flint and teaches regular dyeing workshops at The Neighbourhood Studio in Wellington, NZ.

BELLE & ALICE KAL

Is happening! If you've got Alice or Belle (or both) and would like to join the KAL head over to the Ravelry group - feel free to double dip with the Spoil Yourself Make-along!

As usual the fabulous theme tune is Casting On by Mr Roberelli
