Total Splurge

Total Splurge

After my last post, one of my dear readers pointed me in the direction of Casbah a merino, cashmere, nylon blend, hand-dyed at Handmaiden Yarns.

What can I say? I was totally seduced by the idea of cashmere in my socks, fell in love with the crazy colourways, threw caution to the wind and splurged. Ten days and two skeins of yarn later, I'm so pleased I did - aren't they fabulous? Soooo soft ...

I'm sure there's a risk that such scrumptious, variegated skeins might end up looking a bit of a motley mess in stockinette but the pleasure I'm expecting from slipping such luscious yarn through my fingers, means I don't really care :)

My feet can't wait. Socks, here I come! The dreamy green, grey and lilac on the left is "lilypond" and the striking brown, cream, pinks and orange on the right; obviously "puffin".

I'm all ears - any irresistible yarn you'd recommend?

  1. Fabulous yarn, I particularly love lillypond. It's half the fun, isn't it, seeing how hand-dyed yarns turn out once knitted up? I have a particular liking for Titus by Bar-Ram-Ewe at the moment, there are some pics on my blog this week

  2. I've never knitted with cashmere yarn before, sounds wonderful! Love the colourways you've chosen although can't pick a favourite. Looking forward to seeing how they knit up

  3. Beautiful looking yarns. I would be interested in knowing where to buy lovely yarns in NZ too!

  4. Wow, gorgeous skeins! They are going to be some seriously scrummy socks! I'm loving anything from Eden Cottage yarns at the moment :) x

  5. Hand-dyed cashmerino socks! What luxury! Can't wait to see how these knit up.

I'm currently knitting a shawl with a long gradient yarn from Twisted Fibers - I've never knitted with a true gradient yarn before and it's fascinating!

  7. Lovely! If you do a textured pattern, those colors will behave beautifully!

If you've never worked with any Fibre Company yarns, DO! Just pick any old one. I love them all. :) Canopy Worsted and Fingering are the most luxurious, though, I suppose (sooooooo soft!).

  8. I love Casbah, a long time fave (I have a skein of lily pond in my stash, but now I really want that Puffin!). Other faves at the moment are Dragonfly fibers Djinni sock (merino and cashmere and luscious vivid colours) and Misti Alpaca hand painted sock (alpaca, merino, and silk), which is just fabulous to knit with.

  9. I too am a huge fan of Casbah! Is that colourway on the left 'Rose Garden' by any chance? I've always wanted one of those! I'm also addicted to the Madelinetosh new colourways which are variegated too; Holi Festival, Cosmic Wanderdust and Modern Fairisle. And do you know Skein?

    Happy August.
